Fearing that we would attain double digit growth rates soon many economists used the term overheating of the economy even though half the Indian population experienced no change in their daily livelihood. Now, none of those economists will cling on to their earlier views of overheating of the economy. With the inflation rate increasing day by day and the common man bearing the burden of rising prices of essential commodities.

With the week that ended on June.7 the inflation had risen to a 13-year high, 11.07%. The prices of vegetables and meat have gone up to unimaginable levels. When the fuel prices were raised to bail out the oil companies, one could predict that inflation worries will only worsen. However none could say it will cross the double digit mark and it came as a shock when the Finance Minister said that those levels were expected. Though the government cannot be blamed entirely for the inflation, it has to do more to bail out the common man or the aam admi this time.

With less than a year for the general elections, the UPA cant afford to sit idle and blame the world markets for the inflation. Unless it controls the inflation and creates a better livelihood for the millions there is no chance for it in the next elections. However the government seems to be caught up with a sifferent issue this time, and that is the N deal. The Indo-US nuclear deal and the subsequent deals which will ensure Indias participation in nuclear commerce sre certainly important for the country in the long term future, but the elections gonna be held will be fought on inflation, aam admis burden, burgeoning oil prices, etc. UPAs signing or not signing the deal will hardly make any difference to the common man in the near future !
